Interesting Times is a present day setting using almost all of the setting from Legends of the Wulin. Most factions update pretty easily and obviously, but a few don’t update so easily, or have multiple interpretations. If you’re interesting in belonging to, or being involved with a faction and want a certain slant, let me know and we can solidify it. Otherwise I’ll update the loresheet for those factions as they are introduced. Likewise, if you like any hooks from one of the locations in the book, they can be added to a local loresheet.
The setting plays up the Rivers and Lakes, Mountains and Forests concept explained on page 33. The Wulin exists separate from the real world. Status in one means next to nothing in the other. A Walmart greeter might be an ancient master of a secret transcendent martial art. A CEO of a large company might be a mere apprentice. Most people are largely unaware on the Wulin. Somehow they don’t think about it. A person might tell their boss that they were late for work today because a man wielding a six-foot long sword made of glass was fighting off ninja’s in the subway, and the boss will accept this without comment, and both will forget the incident. Only those that have their lives deeply touched by the Wulin, or who go searching for it, awaken to its reality. The Monks of the Invisible Sunrise work to prevent general awakening, repairing damage from larger brawls, and occasionally taking down players in the Wulin who live too openly.
